Opower receives EURELECTRIC’s Industry Award

Opower, a major player in cloud-based consumer engagement solutions for the utility industry, was declared the winner of EURELECTRIC’s Industry Award, in acknowledgment of its proactive and innovative approach to energy efficiency.

The award, now in its seventh year, recognises companies or individuals that have made a pioneering contribution towards the development of the electricity industry. The decision on Opower’s winning entry was taken by a jury composed of representatives from the electricity industry, think tanks and academia, from a list of nominees submitted to EURELECTRIC over recent months.

On receiving the award at EURELECTRIC’s annual conference, Alex Laskey, co-founder and President of Opower commented, “It’s a huge honour to accept this award. In 2007 when we started out we knew we had a powerful idea, but the revolutions in clean energy, distributed generation, smart meters, smart thermostats and customer expectations have changed the game, faster than any of us could have predicted. In the world in which we now live, utilities have to empower their customers in order to get ahead – trust, transparency, customer engagement and clean energy is where the future needs to be for the energy market, and we’re proud to be playing a role in supporting this.”

“We congratulate Opower on their achievements. Their proactive and innovative approach to energy efficiency impressed our judges, particularly for the way they are empowering customers to manage their energy consumption, thereby saving energy and money – while also improving the customer-utility relationship,” said Johannes Teyssen, President EURELECTRIC, who presented the award.

This award follows other recognitions of Opower’s impact. In January 2014 they won the Data Management and Solutions Award at the Smart Meter Awards. Last year they won the WWF Green Game Changes award.
