GE’s Power Transformer Provides Public Utilities with a Customizable Distribution Solution

SHARE

Helping customers meet their specific power distribution needs and build a more resilient grid, GE’s Digital Energy business has upgraded its medium-power transformer offering with its new, PROLEC-GE Flexible Integrated Transformer (FIT). The transformer provides customers with an optimized, end-to-end solution complete with installation and aftermarket services.

State-of-the-art design tools and extensive research went into the development of PROLEC-GE’s advanced transformer product line to ensure the offering provides customers of all industries with the distribution capabilities they need. With more than 5,000 power transformer units installed in North America, and a high-voltage capacity up to 500 kilovolts, PROLEC-GE is at the forefront of the power transformer industry. Its latest FIT offering includes the medium-power substation transformer, transportation of the unit, assembly, installation, operator training and 24/7-service.

Featuring excellent short-circuit endurance and insulation system design, the FIT can continue to operate through severe electrical distribution system disturbances including lightening, short circuits and overloads. In addition, PROLEC-GE’s knowledgeable technical team and application engineers are available from the earliest stages of the purchase process to support customers with the design of their units to meet their individual technical specifications.

“Our FIT Solution enables us to provide utilities and industrial customers—such as oil and gas facilities and mining operations—with an optimized, medium-power transformer solution capable of meeting their specific needs and the most stringent transformer standards,” said Anthony Allard, general manager, GE’s Digital Energy business. “PROLEC-GE is committed to providing customers with extensive technical support, from the design of the system all the way to installation, to safeguard an efficient and reliable distribution of power across their networks.”

In addition to its unparalleled flexibility and the amount of research committed to developing the technology, the FIT has been tested and verified to meet some of the industry’s most stringent transformer standards. PROLEC-GE has tested the unit to ensure it complies with the latest IEEE standards and can customize other tests—such as transformer sweep frequency response analysis and noise testing—to help utilities and industrial customers chose the proper unit for their application.
